Catching Up!

So much has been going on lately with little time to blog. First of all, before we left for vacation, Taylor’s ball team won the City Championship title for the Confederate league! It was such a sweet victory for the team since we had to beat their biggest rival ‘Murray Vision’….and we had to beat them twice (back to back). Of course Taylor (with Adam’s influence) persisted in calling them ‘Blurry Vision’ after beating them in the first round. I sometimes wonder if Adam really is a positive influence on my child!!!

There have been times that I find myself to be in uncomfortable situations in regards to Adam’s actions, and lately I can definitely point out one in particular.  Adam has been playing softball for the church, as he usually does every year. A couple of years ago the other teammates gave him the name Franchise for many reasons, one being that he claims to be the best player on the team. So in Adam-style, he would write these weekly TWICS after a game and point out players of the week, etc. and send it to his teammates and select members of the church staff.  Below is an excerpt from the latest to give you an example…

Player of the Week - Adam Thomas- overcoming such obstacles as not being able to count to three (outs per 1/2 inning), Franchise, who is quite obviously the heart and soul of the team, led the team to victory.  In addition to hitting and fielding excellence, Franchise displayed his intangible skills as a leader, motivational speaker, and with physical beauty keeps the female fans entertained.  Leading off the bottom of the 7th inning in Game 1, Franchise came to bat with no one on base and his team down by four runs.  In his typical selfless style, he elected not to hit a 5-run homer and allowed his teammates to share in the glory.  Later, Michael Smith dedicated his at-bat to Franchise, and hit a 3-run walk-off homer that quite possibly still hasn't landed.

Getting back to the story, a couple of Sundays ago the pastor was giving a sermon on how the Lord was such a giving person and the reasons why we should try to be more like him. One of the things that he said was that when we first came to the church we were probably thinking “What can this church do for me?” He then proceeded to call out Adam by name in front of the congregation to make an example out of him! I was so embarrassed that I bowed my head so that hopefully people would not see that I was with him! Adam was so caught off guard that he made a noise like someone had just punched him in the stomach. Of course, after the service Adam and the pastor laughed about it, but not before Adam volunteered to help the pastor and the youth minister with anything they needed.  Good Times!

We just arrived back from Costa Rica this week, so stay tuned for another blog soon about our vacation!
